Early voting for the May 3 election ended this past weekend with 7,583 ballots cast in Calcasieu and a slight drop in Beauregard—marking a boost compared to previous runoffs.

Voters will return on Saturday to cast ballots in runoff races and on tax propositions in Calcasieu, Allen and Beauregard.

A group of Southwest Louisiana high school students traveled to Baton Rouge today to meet with state legislators and discuss lowering teen suicide rates through their student-led Peer Initiative+ an organization formed after several teen suicides in the Lake area.

They noted that suicide is the second leading cause of death for middle and high school students aged 12 to 18.
