The Daily Lake Charles team
One year after voters said no, Sulphur said yes. District 30 voters approved the $74 million bond Tuesday with 56% in favor and 44% against, according to unofficial results, and it passed with 4,608 votes in favor.
This bond is smaller than the $83 million proposal that failed in November 2025, when 62% voted no. Superintendent Jason VanMetre said the board went back to the drawing board on projects, which he said saves voters between 7 and 8 million dollars.
- Turnout: 41.3%, up from 8.3% in 2025
- Term: 25 years, at an estimated 8 mills
- Left out: Maplewood Elementary and Middle schools

Sulphur High gets a new music building, canopy-covered walkways and major renovations to five buildings. Frasch Elementary gets a basketball playcourt and dining addition, and W.W. Lewis Middle gets a two-story classroom building. It was also Sulphur's last chance at a bond under the current bonding procedures, because a judge's order means the board must plan for parishwide bonding.
