  • State Farm will lower auto insurance rates by about 5.9% for over 1 million drivers starting January 1, 2026, while new homeowner policies show a 9.7% rate rise affecting more than 300,000 customers as renewals begin December 15, 2025.  Gator 99.5

  • Brenda Hebert, a special education resource teacher + Lake Charles native at J.I. Watson, treats third and fifth graders like her own family to build confidence in reading and math.   • Cynthia’s Holiday Kitchen presents a fig cake recipe passed down from Marjorie Darbonne to her daughter Patricia (Pat-N-Da-Pot). The recipe mixes figs, spices, eggs and oil, bakes in a bundt pan at 350 degrees and finishes with a simple glaze for a festive holiday treat.  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • McNeese State guard Larry Johnson (20) shined in last Friday’s season opener and now leads the Cowboys with 16.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. The Creighton transfer from Savannah continues to excite fans in Lake Charles with his athletic dunks and high scoring rate.  The American Press
  • Four Southwest Louisiana runners were selected to represent CITGO in the 130th Boston Marathon on April 20. Competitors including teacher Britney Glaser and a 62-year-old runner will train rigorously for the 26.2-mile race as they prepare for this challenging event.  7 KPLC
