  • Sissy’s Donuts in Lake Charles is hosting its Christmas Donut Decorating Day on Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2327 Highway 397, Suite 200 (for $18 per person) as kids and adults decorate their own donut while the top design wins a gift.  Gator 99.5
  • The sixth annual Lake Charles Acton Children’s Business Fair and Christmas Market showcases young entrepreneurs at Burton Coliseum on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (The free event offers live music, food trucks, and a Santa visit).  7 KPLC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Selfie Wonderland at Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center features eight interactive installations that invite families to capture festive photos. The free exhibit, open since Nov. 15, runs (through Jan. 3) and brings a local twist to Christmas art.  The American Press
  • Gator 99.5 will host a holiday karaoke party featuring Mike and Scotty at Frosty Factory (4688 Common St) this Thursday night. Attendees will enjoy singing challenges, festive games, and prizes in a lively Christmas setting.  Gator 99.5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • At Wednesday’s offshore lease sale in the Gulf, winning bids totaled $279.4 million at an average of $1.5 million per bid to fund coastal restoration and hurricane protection in Louisiana. Thirty sales are planned over the next decade as companies target deep-water blocks south of Morgan City + Houma.  The Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Jeff Landry’s administration proposed a $1.27 billion coastal restoration plan for fiscal 2027 that cancels controversial river diversions and shifts focus to land bridges, barrier island projects and other efforts to protect Louisiana’s coast + public comments are open until Feb. 17.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Westlake earned a Class 2 fire rating after adding a half-million gallon water tank that could lower insurance rates; homeowners should watch for a notice & share it with their agent when their policy renews.  7 KPLC

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Louisiana Department of Health ended its Medicaid contract with UnitedHealthCare so over 300,000 members will be moved to a new plan starting January 1, with Lake Charles Memorial ready to help patients. Aetna Better Health’s contract was extended through the end of 2026 (LDH announced).  7 KPLC
  • A report says a normal crawfish season is expected in Acadiana as producers note emerging crawfish after a warm fall, with restaurants offering 3-pound boils at $35; meanwhile, CDC data shows Louisiana’s life expectancy has climbed to 73.8 years.  The American Press

  • McNeese University will host the SWLA All-Star High School Volleyball Game on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the McNeese Legacy Center on Les Devall Dr (next to the football stadium). Top-nominated high school players will compete for medals and MVP honors with general admission at $18 and a $14 discount for seniors.  7 KPLC
