GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ United Way in downtown Lake Charles has proposed to demolish 314 Broad St. — a currently unused building — to expand its facility with classrooms, offices, a covered drive-thru, and 37 parking spaces. The Planning and Zoning Commission will review the proposal on Jan. 12 amid community concern and support. 7 KPLC
- ➤ Officials in Welsh are waiting for state approval to extend Frontage Road from North Joseph Street to the I-10 exit near Dairy Queen, a project expected to boost transportation and economic growth. The town accepted a $1,167,735 paving bid and plans to start work early next year. The American Press

- ➤ Residents in Water District 8 received notice after chlorine levels fell below safe minimums in October and November due to a faulty meter — officials flushed the system to restore proper levels and tests confirmed no harmful bacteria were present. 7 KPLC
