COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Many local residents note holiday packages delivered to wrong addresses while theft reports have declined; Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office warns that keeping misdelivered packages could lead to theft charges and advises contacting shipping companies for help.  7 KPLC
  • Families in Westlake can enjoy Pancakes With Santa at the Managan Center on Sunday, Dec. 7 in two sessions (10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.); tickets cost $5 or four tickets are available for a donation to Brennan’s Blessings.  Gator 99.5
  • Local group KPLC is hosting its Community Christmas through the Salvation Army Angel Tree program to help families in need. The event runs today with support available across local venues, and organizers urge residents to donate + join the celebration.  7 KPLC
  • Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys is hosting its 15th annual bike giveaway in Lake Charles & will provide free bicycles to eligible residents on a future date.  7 KPLC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Christmas Under The Oaks returns this weekend with vendors, food and family fun. Local organizers host the event at a community venue, inviting residents to enjoy festive activities and a warm holiday spirit.  7 KPLC
  • Henry 'Huck' Thomas, founder of Washington Marion’s 'Baby Jukebox' marching band and the 'Dancing Dolls' dance team, is honored with a community exhibit (curated by Jeanine Blaney) of pictures, suits, and memorabilia that will display his musical legacy until February 2026 in North Lake Charles.  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • United Way in downtown Lake Charles has proposed to demolish 314 Broad St. — a currently unused building — to expand its facility with classrooms, offices, a covered drive-thru, and 37 parking spaces. The Planning and Zoning Commission will review the proposal on Jan. 12 amid community concern and support.  7 KPLC
  • Officials in Welsh are waiting for state approval to extend Frontage Road from North Joseph Street to the I-10 exit near Dairy Queen, a project expected to boost transportation and economic growth. The town accepted a $1,167,735 paving bid and plans to start work early next year.  The American Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents in Water District 8 received notice after chlorine levels fell below safe minimums in October and November due to a faulty meter — officials flushed the system to restore proper levels and tests confirmed no harmful bacteria were present.  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, Dec. 5, McNeese used a new lineup to beat Northwestern State 92-54 at Townsley Law Arena. The Cowboys improved their record to 7-2 overall and will play Rhode Island on Tuesday at 6 p.m.  The American Press
  • After beating Belle Chasse Friday, the undefeated Iowa Yellow Jackets earned their first state final berth and will face No. 1 North DeSoto at the Superdome next week + as part of the LHSAA Prep Classic scheduled for Dec. 11-13 in New Orleans.  7 KPLC
  • The Iowa Yellow Jackets hosted the Belle Chasse Cardinals in the District II Non-Select semifinals on Friday, Dec. 5 as they aimed for a state finals berth. They were the only playoff team remaining in the region.  7 KPLC
