  • After a mother pleaded for help, community members gathered in Moss Bluff to celebrate her 4-year-old’s birthday—showing strong local support during the event.  7 KPLC
  • Gordon McKernan and 107 JAMZ are partnering for a bike giveaway for families across Southwest Louisiana—winners will be announced before Thanksgiving to help children get a bike for Christmas.  Gator 99.5
  • This November, a Lake Charles mother shared her personal adoption story during National Adoption Awareness Month to show how her own foster care experience inspired her to create a loving home. She and her husband recently adopted a young boy who quickly bonded with the family + his sweet words confirmed he was finally home.  7 KPLC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Travis Matte and the Kingpins will perform at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Lake Charles Saturday, November 15 — tickets and day passes remain available for those planning to attend.  Gator 99.5
  • The 2025 Christmas Under the Oaks event in Sulphur will run on December 5-6 at The Grove at Heritage Square and the Brimstone Museum—featuring a preview party on December 4 with live music by Wayne Toups and John Foster, carnival rides, and a community parade. Funds raised will support the Brimstone Historical Society—tasked with preserving Southwest Louisiana history.  Gator 99.5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rent in Lake Charles jumped 7.69% to an average of $1,132 a month as rising rebuilding costs after hurricanes and floods push landlords to spend more on repairs — forcing some renters to search farther for affordable homes.  Gator 99.5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Southwest Louisiana residents with high utility bills may get help through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program if they qualify by income—applications are accepted in person at 2001 Moeling St. on Friday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to Noon on November 14, December 5, December 12, and December 19.  Gator 99.5
  • Homeowners in SWLA can apply today for one of 1,000 fortified roof grants, as Commissioner Tim Temple announced that the lottery process will help improve roof strength against wind and water damage. Applicants must register on the LFHP website — even those with existing profiles — during the registration period to be randomly selected.  Gator 99.5
  • The Town of Welsh will have a power outage on Friday, Nov 21 and Saturday, Nov 22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to upgrade its electrical system—residents can call City Hall at 337-734-2231 with questions.  7 KPLC
