COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On November 11, residents gathered at Combre Memorial Park to honor veterans—attendees paid tribute to their military service.  7 KPLC
  • The Avenue of Flags—recognized as the largest display of memorial flags in the U.S.—marked its 42nd anniversary in Lake Charles on November 11.  7 KPLC
  • Community members gathered at Veterans Memorial Park on Tuesday morning to honor veterans at a ceremony that recognized sacrifice and service—Mayor Marshall Simien and Major General Keith Waddell stressed the lasting respect owed to those who served and to the families who supported them.  7 KPLC
  • Today, the Vessel Project of Louisiana led by Roishetta Ozane gave out milk, orange juice, eggs, corn and red beans and rice to local community members during the government shutdown—SNAP recipient Barbara Freeman said the drive helped her feed her grandchildren. The group will host a Thanksgiving giveaway on November 24 that will provide ham and turkey.  7 KPLC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Legendary band Chicago will perform at the Golden Nugget’s Grand Event Center on May 2 in Lake Charles as part of their tour, showcasing hits from nearly six decades of music. Tickets will go on sale starting November 14th at 10:00 a.m. — fans can look forward to an evening filled with classic tunes.  Gator 99.5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Calcasieu Parish School Board recognized three school counselors for 2025—2026 on November 11. Karen Sullivan at Nelson Elementary, Angela Celestine at S.J. Welsh Middle, and Hope Berry at Iowa High were honored for their dedication to student success—superintendent Dr. Jason VanMetre said they are essential to helping students thrive.  The American Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Louisiana High School Athletic Association released its proposed district classifications for 2026–2028 on Monday to change school groupings in Southwest Louisiana; the plan shifts schools like DeRidder, which will move from 4A to 3A, and Unice will also change classifications—other schools will follow as details are finalized.  Gator 99.5
  • Four high school football teams from Southwest Louisiana (Iowa, Lake Charles College Prep, Kinder and Hamilton Christian) earned top-four playoff seeds when the LHSAA released brackets Sunday; this is the most top-four seeds in 26 seasons and the teams will receive a first-round bye in the playoffs.  The American Press
  • The Barbe Bucs secured a playoff spot with a strong season finish as they beat rival Sam Houston 70 to 45 in their final regular season game on Friday — standout efforts from quarterback Jelandon Gray and running back Jordin Griffin powered the win.  The American Press
