COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Lake Charles salon is giving back to veterans today—serving those who have served our country—and honoring their sacrifice on Veterans Day. The event supports local heroes with a special program to recognize their service.  7 KPLC
  • Lake Charles will host Flea Fest this weekend at the Burton Coliseum Complex’s Event Barn at 7001 Gulf Highway — a large market with booths selling antiques, crafts, and food from local vendors. Families will enjoy pony rides and a petting zoo — adding fun to the festive shopping event.  Gator 99.5
  • The final Cowboy Block Party is set for Friday, November 14 at the groove on the corner of Common and McNeese Streets with gates opening at 7:00 p.m. and Steelshot starting at 8:30 p.m. — the event follows the McNeese Cowboys game against the Ragin’ Cajuns at Townsley Law Center beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Gator 99.5
  • Local volunteers made quilts to honor veterans and held the display at a community center on November 10th. The quilts show how the community remembers the sacrifices of military members—bringing local pride to life.  7 KPLC
  • Gordon McKernan, a Louisiana attorney, is hosting a statewide bike giveaway that will provide over 600 bikes and helmets to children in Monroe, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Alexandria, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Hammond and New Orleans. Registration opened on Nov 10 and will close Dec 1 for Monroe, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Alexandria and Shreveport and Dec 7 for other cities.  7 KPLC

  • TripAdvisor reviewers ranked five Lake Charles Mexican restaurants as top spots for tacos, margaritas and other dishes—Laguna’s Mexican Grill and Cantina, Johnny Sánchez, Victoria’s Taqueria, Casa Mañana Mexican Restaurant and Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp.  Gator 99.5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials announced that since today is Veterans Day, all City of Lake Charles offices—including the Department of Public Works—are closed and Tuesday's trash pickup has been moved to Wednesday, November 12. The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury said Waste Management customers will have their garbage picked up on its regular schedule—residents should plan accordingly.  Gator 99.5
  • Louisiana Department of Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple announced that 1,000 fortified roof grants will open Wednesday using a lottery system for coastal zone residents including Lake Charles, Sulphur and Westlake — interested homeowners must register online to be considered for grants of up to $10,000.  7 KPLC

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Lake Charles man found a kidney donor after posting on Facebook for help. He now awaits further testing & transplant arrangements.  7 KPLC
  • Joey Jarreau, who struggled with polycystic kidney disease, made a Facebook plea and 30 people were tested for a kidney match; Chauntelle LeJeune, a friend through their children, donated her kidney in July—two months after their sons graduated—and both have recovered well while inspiring others.  7 KPLC

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Home sales in Lake Charles are speeding up as houses now sell in about two months compared to three months last year—Realtor Timothy Castle said staging homes with family touches helps buyers imagine living there—and prices have increased between 2 and 5%.  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Sam Houston Broncos beat Bell Chasse with scores of 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 on Saturday to earn a spot at the state volleyball tournament at the Cajundome. They will face No. 2 St. Scholastica on Thursday at 2 p.m. on Court 2.  The American Press
  • On Sunday, the High School Athletics Association released the 2025 football playoff brackets showing four local teams—specifically the Iowa and Kinder Yellow Jackets, Hamilton Christian, and Lake Charles College Prep—earned first-round byes. The Yellow Jackets finished 10-0 while Hamilton Christian and Lake Charles College Prep ended the season at 8-1 and 8-2, setting up a competitive playoff season.  Gator 99.5
