  • Faith Bible Church in Lake Charles served over 500 hot meals to first responders on National First Responders Day—pastor Bart Leger, who spent nearly 30 years as a first responder, organized the annual event to honor local heroes and plans additional support programs like suicide intervention training for their peers.  7 KPLC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana broke ground on the new Feather Fuel Travel Plaza in Iowa at Exit 44, where a 14,000 square-foot facility will have 24 gas pumps, 7 diesel lanes, and a deli with local food. The project will open in summer and is set to bring local jobs and showcase the Tribe’s heritage — Tribal Chairman David Sickey said the design blends modern features with traditional elements.  The American Press
  • Meta's AI data center project in Holly Ridge now costs $27 billion — nearly three times the $10 billion first announced — as construction continues and the company joins with Blue Owl Capital to finance the effort. Local officials said the higher cost may point to future growth in Richland Parish, though no new deal has been finalized.  The Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tomorrow the Lake Charles Symphony will perform a 17-piece candlelight Sleepy Hollow themed concert at Central School Arts and Humanities Center at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature family activities such as pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, and book signings plus a LaGrange Student Symphony performance starting at 5:30 p.m. with about 50 tickets left.  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lake Charles City Council approved a plan to build an indoor sports complex at the former Capitol One site—this decision will expand local recreational options for residents.  7 KPLC
  • If the government shutdown continues, SNAP benefits for about 800000 Louisiana residents will be paused on Nov. 1, prompting Gov. Landry to declare a state of emergency and lawmakers to propose redirecting $150 million in health funds. Local food banks already face a shortage of meals and warn that hunger may worsen—donations and volunteer work are needed.  The American Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital opened a new infusion center yesterday to expand access to infusion treatments for local patients — hospital officials said the facility will help meet growing health needs.  7 KPLC
  • West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital announced Tuesday it will keep the Genesis Therapeutic Riding Center open—allowing time to seek funding and community partnerships before relocating operations on November 7. The center, which provides occupational and hippotherapy for patients with motor skill challenges, will continue care while stopping hippotherapy after the move.  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Northwestern State Demons struggled this season as they try to rebuild after a tragedy, winning their opener before heavy losses hurt their record. They will face McNeese State Saturday at Navarre Stadium — a rivalry game expected to test both teams — as they search for their first Southland win in three seasons.  The American Press
