  • A giant robot built from old car parts now stands at Ashford’s Automotive Service on East Prien Lake Road—local residents say honking might prompt a friendly wave.  Gator 99.5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sam Houston High School students in Moss Bluff filled the gym for a Fields of Faith event that offered food and fellowship to share the message of Jesus. Teachers and students organized the event in partnership with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes—an organization that supports faith initiatives across Southwest Louisiana.  7 KPLC
  • Today, open rifle season has started and retired instructor Glen Ducharme advised hunters to wear 400 square inches of hunter orange and check their gun's muzzle direction—bullets travel farther than expected.  7 KPLC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Quiet high pressure keeps weather calm through today and Friday with morning lows in the 50s and sunny afternoons pushing temperatures to the 80s. Spotty showers will begin late Friday night and increase on Saturday as a cold front brings a cool down and on and off rain next week—rain totals may reach 1 to 3 inches in many areas.  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana SNAP recipients may not receive their November benefits if the federal government shutdown continues—officials say the delay could impact low-income families who rely on this aid.  7 KPLC
  • Gov. Jeff Landry declared at the 21st Americas LNG Summit that 'all pipelines lead to Louisiana' and said the LNG industry has boosted jobs while strengthening national security. He noted that a recent executive order pausing new carbon capture applications allowed the state to recalibrate its energy plans — experts from more than 50 countries attended the global event.  The American Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • CHRISTUS Health awarded a $300,000 grant to three nonprofits — Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana, Family and Youth Counseling Agency Inc. and Family Foundation of Southwest Louisiana — to support local community health initiatives; the funds were presented this morning at CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital as part of the CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund.  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Monday, the LHSAA released student numbers for 402 schools and showed more than 10 percent may change classifications, with six schools in Southwest Louisiana affected—Lake Charles College Prep grew 19 percent since 2021 and will move up to 4A while other schools review their options. Schools have until noon on Nov. 4 to submit petitions for a change or request a higher class.  The American Press
  • ESPNU will air McNeese’s men’s basketball game against Texas A&M Corpus Christi at Townsley Law Arena on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. — it marks the first time the Cowboys will have three regular-season games on national TV — following CBS Sports Network’s earlier announcement of two games.  Gator 99.5
  • The Barbe Bucs volleyball team came from behind in a four-set win Tuesday against defending champion Southside to move within one game of its first district title since 2017. The team, led by freshman Josie Tilton who had a key role—will play Carencro today to try and clinch the district championship.  The American Press
  • Louisiana public colleges now plan to pay athletes millions following a June NCAA settlement that allowed direct salaries; LSU will allocate $18 million — primarily for football and men's basketball players — while other schools will pay over $2.7 million. Some universities have not released detailed payroll data, saying the pay structures help keep a competitive edge.  The Advocate
