- ➤ Mitchell Pete, the new director of the Lake Charles Housing Authority, said he will boost affordable housing by remodeling 520 damaged units and tearing down old homes on St. Mary Drive—steps supported by FEMA funding. He will use a $40 million federal grant to develop phased projects that provide targeted housing for seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities. The American Press

- ➤ UnitedHealthcare announced it may drop LCMC Health hospitals including Manning Family Children’s from its network on Nov. 1 — nearly 7,000 families could face high out-of-network costs or have to leave Louisiana if they lose coverage for lifesaving care. A letter from Dr. Mark Kline at Manning Family Children’s urged the insurer to stop using children as pawns in decisions driven by profit. The Advocate
