- ➤ A local blues musician now performs daily at a storefront in Lake Charles to bring live music to the neighborhood. Firefighters quickly put out a fire at Golden Hooks on Ryan Street on Friday, Sept. 26. 7 KPLC
- ➤ Cooler's Icehouse in Lake Charles is hosting the Men Wear Pink with a Shade of Green Wing Cook-off today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.—the event will include live music, a wing cook-off, drink deals, and a silent auction to raise funds for Allen Joyner's campaign supporting the American Cancer Society. - ➤ Members of the Laborers International Union of North America held a two-day protest in Hackberry this week outside Sunland Construction’s yard to call for safer jobs and fair treatment of workers. The union said it wants stronger oversight and proper benefits for workers + better pay after past pipeline safety issues were reported. The American Press

- ➤ Leroy Pete, known as The Blues Man, plays his guitar near the 3rd Ave. Market Basket on weekdays after 10 a.m.—he sings heartfelt songs from memory that comfort Lake Charles residents as they pass by. 7 KPLC
- ➤ Twelve-year-old James Tucker Jr. from Lake Charles appeared on the Jennifer Hudson show earlier this week—he went viral since age 5 and became a well-known internet personality with millions of views who now plans to make music and act in movies. Tucker said his success taught him to chase his dreams while staying grounded in everyday life. 7 KPLC

- ➤ Students at Lake Charles College Prep received 20 refurbished laptops and 150 backpacks packed with school supplies on Thursday morning as part of a partnership between the school, United Way of Southwest Louisiana & AT&T. The gifts are meant to bridge the digital divide for both high-performing students and those active in extracurriculars. The American Press

- ➤ At Tuesday’s meeting, Lake Charles City Council voted to add a project on the former Hertz Tower site to build an indoor sports complex featuring flexible courts for basketball, volleyball and pickleball — the proposal must meet HUD rules and complete environmental reviews before moving forward. The council will vote on the project at its Oct. 1 meeting. The American Press
- ➤ The Lake Charles Police Department is accepting applications until Nov. 7 for its Jan. 5 recruit class that requires a 300-meter sprint, 24 sit-ups, and a 150-lb dummy drag—candidates must also pass a mock interview and polygraph test. 7 KPLC
- ➤ The Louisiana DOTD announced that I-210 Westbound’s left lane between Exit 3 and Mile Marker 1 will be closed Monday, September 29 from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. as crews install new electrical equipment for bridge lighting — drivers are advised to exercise caution near the work zone. Gator 99.5

- ➤ McNeese is set to begin Southland Conference play today at 7:00 p.m. CT against veteran Stephen F. Austin — a team with many seniors on offense and defense — as Coach Matt Viator aims to improve a season that started slowly. Gator 99.5
- ➤ Ronnie Rantz, owner of the Baton Rouge Rougarou, purchased 100% of the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators on Sept. 12 and brought in local investors for operations. He said the change will make the rivalry more intense — adding a new twist to both teams. The Advocate
