- ➤ Drivers will soon pay tolls when they cross the new I-10 bridge over the Calcasieu River, and local residents have raised concerns after issues with the Belle Chasse bridge where high fees and billing errors hurt users (one single mother was charged $6,000 in four months). - ➤ The final design for a hurricane safe room for the Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury is nearly complete and will let them seek bids for the 2,600 square-foot facility behind the police jury annex and courthouse in Jennings. Designed by Porche May Architects and funded by FEMA’s Hazardous Mitigation Grant Program, the safe room will serve as an operations center for emergency crews during storms and include key areas like a reception and storage room.
