- ➤ On Jan 31, 1906, Lake Charles’ first trolley car left the Ryan Street car barns and rolled down an eight-mile route with the mayor, chief of police, city council members, newspaper representatives, and street railroad officers riding on its inaugural trip — Ernest Bel’s white horse performed a two-step tribute. The locally built electric railway proved its promise despite initial issues with dirt on the tracks and paved the way for a network of trolley lines serving the city until 1926. The American Press

- ➤ On September 20, the state approved the first carbon capture well near Hackberry to let Sempra Infrastructure pump up to 2 million metric tons of CO2 underground under Black Lake for 20 years—bringing over 200 construction jobs and about 10 operating jobs while still needing more engineering and permits. Critics have raised concerns about nearby wells and aquifers as the project moves into its next phase. The American Press
