Five Iron Golf will open in the fall at 607 Ryan Street in downtown Lake Charles to offer indoor golf, dining, and events.

Co-owners Jason Benoit and Michael Boyer said the facility will feature high-end simulators (using Trackman technology) and activities for all ages.

The historic federal court and post office building received its finishing touches on April 1st when the lower floor began serving the public, and it later housed the court on its upper level—now the Lundy Law Firm occupies the building built with Georgia limestone and Vermont marble, featuring a basement that once served as a waiting area for mail carriers. This structure stands as a rare example of early government architecture in downtown Lake Charles.

Public health expert Charles Stoecker at Tulane University said that school vaccine mandates help keep dangerous diseases like polio and measles from spreading even as Louisiana allows parents to choose exemptions.

He warned that canceling mandates — as seen in Florida — could put more people at risk by leading to outbreaks if fewer kids get vaccinated.

The McNeese Cowboys are hosting the Weber State Wildcats today at 6 p.m. at Navarre Stadium — a game broadcast on ESPN and 92.9 The Lake marks their first FCS matchup this season.

Matt Viator went for the win as the McNeese Cowboys lost 42—41 to Weber State Saturday night at Navarre Stadium—key plays by Jake Strong and Tre’Vonte Citizen kept the contest close despite a late defensive miscue.
