  • A free Women’s Self-Defense Seminar will be held Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the Sulphur Regional Library at 1160 Cypress Street, where Tyler Scalisi + a local Olympic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu studio owner will teach practical skills to boost confidence.  Gator 99.5

  • Traffic on I-10E remains disrupted after a vehicle accident closed the highway near the Iowa exit before LA 383 at mile marker 42 — DOTD advises motorists to take an alternate route as congestion stretches nearly two miles.  7 KPLC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SOWELA offers several financial aid options to help students manage college costs. The college accepts both TOPS Tech and Federal Pell grants along with SOWELA Foundation scholarships and is taking applications for Spring and Fall 2026—students must meet required criteria.  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lake Charles Police Department has introduced a new robotic K-9 called Spot—manufactured by Boston Dynamics—to perform observations and detect chemicals. Today, the SWAT team unveiled the versatile unit that moves with flexible motions and operates with a tablet resembling a Nintendo Switch.  7 KPLC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Imperial Calcasieu is increasing suicide prevention efforts during Awareness Month—executive director Tanya McGee noted that while school programs successfully reached youths, treatment gaps remain for white men in their 30s and older. The agency reported an 80% no-show rate for hospital referrals and plans to renew crisis intervention training for first responders today while lawmakers rallied yesterday at 988 Day.  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Weber State Wildcats will try to earn their first win of the season when they face McNeese on Saturday at Navarre Stadium — coming off two tough losses against FBS teams. McNeese, which has won four of the last five matchups with the Wildcats, will look to use its strong defense to secure a victory.  The American Press
  • McNeese unveiled its new press box and luxury suites last week during a Louisiana Christian game—featuring 25 suites and a 1,700-square-foot sky club—designed to give media and fans a modern game-day experience.  Gator 99.5
