CRIME NEWS
- ➤ In a multi-vehicle crash in Moss Bluff last night around 9 p.m. at the intersection of North Perkins Ferry Road and Poeyfarre Drive, a 19-year-old died when a Toyota SUV passed a stopped Chevy pickup in a no passing zone and struck a southbound Ford — a second Chevy pickup then hit the Ford and 24-year-old Shelby T. Wood was arrested for suspected drunk driving. 7 KPLC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Louisiana National Guard mobilized about 95 soldiers and airmen on September 6 to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement at several local sites, and they remain under Title 32 status—under the command of Gov. Jeff Landry and Maj. Gen. Thomas C. Friloux. The American Press
- ➤ One year ago, the Capital One tower was taken down after Hurricane Laura damaged the building, leaving its 22 floors in scattered glass along the lakefront. Mayor Marshall Simien said a new plan at 1 Lakeshore Drive—intended to link downtown and the lakefront—will be reevaluated by city leaders. 7 KPLC
- ➤ Chief Warrant Officer 2 Mike Dillon now serves at Marine Safety Unit Lake Charles—where he leads marine inspections and advises on law enforcement to protect our waters. The 16-year Coast Guard member, with a strong background in environmental science from Frostburg State University, works alongside a team of 45 to keep local and national waterways safe from threats like drug smuggling and pollution. - ➤ On Friday, Gov. Jeff Landry paid a $900 fine for not reporting a free plane ride to Hawaii—he admitted he accepted nearly 20 free trips worth over $13,000 since 2021, ending a long ethics probe.
