ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One person died and a child was seriously injured in a head-on crash on E. McNeese Street in Lake Charles — authorities said the accident occurred on September 5.  7 KPLC
  • Lake Charles Police say they are responding to a crash near the intersection of E. McNeese and Brown Streets this morning that resulted in injuries with unknown severity and motorists are advised to take an alternate route due to backed up traffic.  7 KPLC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 103rd Cal-Cam Fair will be held in Sulphur at the West Cal Arena and Events Center, where families will enjoy rides, food, music and bull fights while honoring longtime board member Jan. The event will also feature livestock shows and competitions and showcase local agriculture and cultural customs—celebrating over a century of community heritage.  Gator 99.5
  • The Roots & Boots Tour—featuring Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin, and Collin Raye—will perform tonight at L'Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles, and tickets are still available for those wanting to join in the excitement.  Gator 99.5
  • The Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center in Lake Charles offers a diverse lineup of free events and exhibits through 2025 with operating hours Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—upcoming shows include White Linen Night from 5-9 p.m., Heather Ryan Kelley’s 'Ephemera' until Oct. 25, and the Gallery by the Lake exhibit starting Sept. 26.   The American Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Erika Jagneaux, a Sulphur native, works as a curriculum coordinator at W.T. Henning Elementary—she makes sure upper elementary students feel seen and valued. She uses her 13 years in education to help teachers with tools and ideas that make school better.  The American Press
  • A group of seven students with intellectual disabilities experienced a new college program called PRIME at McNeese—where officials, families, and students gathered at the McNeese Rec Center on Thursday for a signing ceremony. The two-year pilot program will let students audit classes while taking courses on career development, independent living and social skills.  The American Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • National Alliance on Mental Illness is launching a free Family-to-Family class in Lake Charles to help families understand mental illness and build a support network—taught by Deborah Anderson, with classes starting on Oct.2 and meeting on Thursdays in October and November.  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school football week 1 began on Thursday night in Southwest Louisiana with six games and continued later that night with 13 matchups — including a long-time rivalry between Iowa and Jennings featured as the Touchdown Live Game of the Week.  7 KPLC
  • McNeese State plays Louisiana-Lafayette today in Lafayette as the Cowboys aim for a 2 to 0 start for the first time since 2018—head coach Matt Viator said the rivalry renewal will test both teams after strong season openers.  The American Press
