- ➤ Two good Samaritans rescued a great horned owl that was tangled in the netting of a soccer goal at W.W. Lewis Middle School in Sulphur — they used a tote bag and scissors to free the bird. 7 KPLC

- ➤ Blue Bell has launched its new Classic Pecan Pie ice cream flavor—made with rich brown sugar ice cream, roasted pecans, flaky pie crust, and pecan pie filling—for a limited time in Louisiana and Texas. Gator 99.5
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Five people, including three inmates, were arrested after a bag of contraband was found outside Calcasieu Correctional Facility on August 25—Judge Tony Fazzio set bonds ranging from $41,000 to $295,000 on charges of contraband, conspiracy, and drug distribution. 7 KPLC
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ ACTS Theatre is expanding its artistic reach this season with a bold lineup that includes 'James and the Giant Peach: The Musical' running Sept. 19 to Sept. 28, 'Rocky Horror Show' scheduled from Oct. 24 to Nov. 1, and 'Misery' staged from Dec. 5 to Dec. 7 – ticket prices vary by show and tickets are available online. - ➤ Lake Area Ballet is preparing for its eighth annual performance of “The Nutcracker” at Rosa Hart Theatre with six shows planned between Nov. 20 and Nov. 22 — the schedule includes a sensory friendly show at 6 p.m. on Nov. 20, school field trip performances at 9 a.m. on Nov. 20 and Nov. 21, and public shows at 7 p.m. on Nov. 21 and 1 p.m. on Nov. 22. Director Colleen Cannon Benoit said the ballet will continue a local holiday tradition that started in 1963 and attracts area families each season. The American Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ McNeese State University celebrated the signing ceremony on Wednesday for its new PRIME (Preparing for Real Independence and Motivating for Excellence) program, which gives young adults aged 18 to 26 with intellectual disabilities a chance to build academic, career, and independent living skills through courses, specialized classes, and internships on campus. The program will award graduates a certificate and allow them to take part in commencement, with university leaders supporting its launch. 7 KPLC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Louisiana Department of Transportation announced that I-10 construction will begin soon and cautioned residents to expect temporary traffic delays—DOTD stated more information will follow as planning continues. 7 KPLC
- ➤ After a delay, work on the new I-10 bridge project in Westlake will begin Thursday evening with Exit 27 closing for 18 months while crews build a safer bridge with six travel lanes—plus two auxiliary lanes, modern lighting and an overpass at Sampson Street to avoid train delays. Drivers must use alternate routes via nearby exits during the construction period. Gator 99.5
