  • On 9/3, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported arrests of several individuals charged with crimes including firearm possession by a convicted felon, aggravated assault, theft, drug offenses and domestic abuse battery — charges and bond amounts vary by case.  The American Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Legendary Cajun fiddler Ellis Vanicor, a Cajun Music Hall of Fame inductee, died Sunday at age 96—his six-decade career began with the Lacassine Playboys and he retired in 2019—leaving a lasting legacy on local music.  The American Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • LDWF said silt in Big Lake affected the oyster population — local fishermen blamed a dredging accident involving Venture Global.  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., has boosted his campaign for the 2026 primary by garnering key GOP endorsements and raising $2.1 million in the second quarter while visiting 15 parishes — his strong fundraising and grassroots support position him as a frontrunner in a crowded field.  The American Press
  • Construction crews worked Tuesday to tear down the parking garage behind Magnolia Building to clear space for a new three-story judicial complex that will house family, juvenile, civil and criminal courts.  The American Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • The McNeese volleyball team is set to open its home season today at Legacy Center—starting with a 6 p.m. match against Alcorn State after a strong showing in the Sam Houston Classic. They will compete in the tournament with games on Friday and Saturday as they build on their early season success.  The American Press
  • Westlake’s Alicia Cuppens, who has played soccer and basketball since she was 5, will suit up today as kicker for the Rams at Rosepine—she received an invitation after impressing coach John Richardson in practice. Her parents supported her switch to football and the team believes her sports experience could help secure close wins.  The American Press
