COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ City of Lake Charles held a groundbreaking ceremony at 1601 Illinois St. on Tuesday to start nearly four years of planning for upgrades at Buddy Prejean Park in the Brentwood neighborhood, adding fencing, lighting, and a splash pad. The park will receive new high school regulation softball and baseball fields — serving three local athletic programs — and is expected to be finished by February for baseball season. - ➤ Gmail users in Lake Charles are warned that a hacker breach exposed basic business contact info from Google's Salesforce system—Google states that private emails and passwords were not taken. Users should change their passwords and turn on two-factor authentication—completing a Security Checkup is advised amid rising scam activity. Gator 99.5

- ➤ The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office reported the arrest of 34 individuals on 9/2 for charges including domestic abuse battery, burglary, drug possession and other offenses—bonds ranged from $7,000 to $300,000. The American Press

- ➤ Lake Charles will host several major concerts this September at venues such as L'Auberge, Coushatta Casino, Golden Nugget and the Lake Charles Event Center—events include the Roots & Boots Tour on September 6th, shows by Brantley Gilbert, Joe and Gary Allan, a McNeese Cowboy Block Party on September 12th, and the Louisiana Food & Wine Festival from September 18th to 21st. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Calcasieu Parish began accepting expungement applications on Sept. 2 for those with qualifying criminal records; the Lake Charles City Court and Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office handled the process—aiming to remove barriers to employment, housing, voting, and education. 7 KPLC
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Alex Worley of Worley Chiropractic warns that students who wear backpacks with one strap may risk developing scoliosis as they return to school & advises using both straps and keeping textbooks close to the back. He also recommends at-home stretching exercises to help maintain proper spine health. 7 KPLC
- ➤ KPLC and Gray Media launch a series of suicide awareness stories this month after the Calcasieu Coroner’s Office tracked trends in suicide numbers—showing more gun-related deaths among men in their 40s and older. The office works with local health agencies, McNeese and the Department of Health to analyze data and plan new prevention programs, and a task force will discuss additional measures next week. 7 KPLC
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ LSU beat No. 4 Clemson 17 to 10 on Aug. 30 after its defense held Clemson to few yards and stopped them late in the game — rankings were released Tuesday at 1 p.m. CT. The win was LSU’s first season-opening win since 2019 and may boost the team’s confidence for upcoming games. 7 KPLC
