- ➤ Dry Creek Farm will open a 12-acre corn maze on Saturday, Sept. 27 to honor Louisiana-born country star Lainey Wilson as part of the third Country Music Corn Maze campaign. Visitors can enter to win a trip to see Wilson perform (Dec. 7) at the National Finals Rodeo in Vegas and receive an autographed album copy. 7 KPLC
- ➤ Legendary Cajun musician Ellis Vanicor died Sunday at 96 — he founded the Lacassine Playboys in the 1940s and performed at local venues and festivals — leaving a lasting legacy in the region. Funeral plans have not yet been announced. 7 KPLC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ DOTD says the I-210 westbound left lane will close for electrical work today at 6 a.m. through Friday, Sept.5—then reopen temporarily over the weekend and close briefly Monday morning before permanently reopening Monday evening. The department also states that I-10 detours from Sampson Street in Westlake will begin Thursday, Sept.4—with drivers facing rerouted traffic for 18 months. 7 KPLC

- ➤ After a huge 54 to 9 win over Louisiana Christian, the Cowboys are gearing up to face the injured Ragin’ Cajuns of Louisiana Lafayette this Saturday in Lafayette—coach Matt Viator said the team aims to boost its defense for the challenge ahead. The American Press
- ➤ The DeQuincy Tigers will return to G. Dalton Faircloth Stadium this season with a mix of experienced seniors and new players to build on a 9-2 record from last year — head coach Tate Woodard said the team plans to quickly grow its young talent while staying competitive. The American Press
- ➤ The South Beauregard Golden Knights will lean on a 4-2-5 defense and experienced seniors Shooter Soileau and Dawson Barrow this season as they regroup after the loss of key players. Coach Brad Kellogg said the team will boost its run game by moving senior Jacob Marcantel to running back and using two tight ends—helping expose match-up problems—while trying to fix speed issues.
