- ➤ Former New York City mayor Major John Purroy Mitchel died instantly on July 6 at 8:05 a.m. when his plane went down during a training flight at Gerstner Field due to an unfastened seatbelt — his body was later found in a marsh near the field. The American Press

- ➤ On Aug. 29, 2025, Calcasieu Correctional Center booked multiple individuals for charges including battery, drug offenses, theft and trespassing—cases involving residents from Lake Charles, LaPlace, Sulphur, Sorrento, Vinton and Galveston. 7 KPLC

- ➤ Sen. Jeremy Stine said Louisiana’s new laws to cut insurance fraud, lower taxes and boost energy projects are already lifting state rankings and easing costs for families—LNG investments and more jobs are expected to follow. Lawmakers plan a special session from Oct. 23 to Nov. 13 to adjust redistricting and continue these reforms across energy and education. The American Press
