COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chefs will compete in the 4th annual Warriors Jambalaya Cook-off on Sept. 13 at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings — the event will feature a car show, touch-a-truck display, craft vendors and live music by Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners from 9-11 a.m. Proceeds will support maintenance projects at the veterans home and cemetery.  The American Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lake Charles is hosting the 13th annual SERA Black Rodeo at the Burton Complex this weekend—doors open at 6:00 p.m. and events include bull riding, barrel racing, team roping and junior barrel racing for kids.  Gator 99.5
  • Gallery By The Lake opened its 'Enjoy the Journey' exhibition featuring Dan Plummer and Terri Crochet yesterday at the Historic City Hall Arts—Cultural Center, where a reception ran from 5—7 p.m. The exhibition is open from Tuesday through Saturday until Nov. 8 with free admission.  The American Press

  • McNeese tailgating season is underway in Lake Charles — fans prepare for game day with cowboy gear, grill supplies, cool drinks, seating, games, and tickets as the guide lists the essential items for a smooth pregame event.  Gator 99.5
  • McNeese State starts its football season today at Navarre Stadium at 6 p.m. as it plays Louisiana Christian in the 20th meeting (the first since 1966) under coach Viator (who once led the team to strong wins) and hopes to revive its former success.  Gator 99.5

    5k Fun Run & Walk for all ages organized by the McNeese Track and Field / XC Program presented by the McNeese Cowboy Club. Proceeds raised go directly back to program to help offset funding for Travel, Meals, Equipment, Insurance, Supplies for the Year. Your support is appreciated.
