- ➤ The City of Lake Charles is hosting a Back-to-School Hygiene Products drive from August 25 through September 15 at City Hall (326 Pujo St.) to collect new and unused items like deodorant, soap, and toothbrushes for local schools. Residents are encouraged to drop off smaller, travel-sized items during regular business hours to help schools distribute supplies throughout the year. 7 KPLC

- ➤ Local author Kyle Moser has released his sci-fi novel History Emergent, which follows teen Janus Nasim as he grows up in a world managed by an all-seeing AI. The book took 12 years to craft and is available at local bookstores & online retailers. The American Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters Southwest Louisiana’s Lunch Buddy Program pairs mentors and students during lunch breaks in 20 local schools and plans to add eight more schools next school year to reach 70 matches. Volunteers must pass a screening and attend an orientation—helping improve students’ attendance and social skills. The American Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials released a video preview of the new I-10 Bridge in Lake Charles—featuring six travel lanes, two auxiliary lanes, improved lighting, and an overpass at Sampson Street—to show local residents what travel will look like once the project begins. Construction will start in spring 2026 and finish by 2031, with about $2.3 billion funded by state, federal sources and tolls via GeauxPass for 50 years. Gator 99.5
- ➤ Today, the Registrar of Voters Office at the Old Parish Courthouse in Lake Charles hosts an open house from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—letting residents register to vote, update their information, and ask questions about the process.
