- ➤ District A in Lake Charles will soon have a new community resilience center that will provide disaster resources and boost local development — led by the Greater St. Mary Community Development Foundation. The Hope Center will be built on North First Avenue beside a planned church and is expected to take 18 to 24 months to complete. The American Press
- ➤ The I-210 Bridge—officially named the Israel LaFleur Bridge—spans the Calcasieu Ship Channel and has been a key connector in Lake Charles since 1976; recent light installations have slowed travel, and residents expect it to ease congestion when I-10 work begins in 2026. Gator 99.5

- ➤ A man unlawfully operating a crane in a work zone on I-10 near Vinton caused multiple crashes early Saturday morning—two injuries were reported and major property damage occurred—leading to the arrest of 37-year-old Matthew Vincent on charges including simple burglary and aggravated obstruction of a highway. - ➤ Tonight, Lake Charles residents learned the full recycling process when Team Green and Waste Management showed how recyclables go from drop-off to being remade at Drew Park during the Summer of Sustainability event. Officials warned that proper sorting is key to keeping materials free from contamination — a critical step to improve recycling efforts. 7 KPLC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana will receive nearly 195 million in federal funds from FEMA and the FAA to support disaster recovery, emergency preparedness and local airport upgrades in Southwest Louisiana. Nearly 69 million from FEMA will fund recovery from Hurricane Laura, the 2016 floods and the Tiger Island Fire—FAA funds will help improve local airports. 7 KPLC
