- ➤ Louisiana authorities warn that a scam is targeting residents by using phone calls that falsely claim to come from the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office—scammers use the name of Chief Deputy Jared Morton to allege an arrest warrant and demand money; officials advise residents to verify any such calls by contacting the office directly. - ➤ Lake Charles police arrested 18-year-old John Orphy IV and 19-year-old Jakeelan Jamarcus Freeman for a shooting on Anita Drive on July 27 that left one person injured; they face charges of assault by drive-by shooting, aggravated battery, illegal use of weapons, and aggravated criminal damage to property. 7 KPLC
