- ➤ On Saturday, St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Lake Charles hosted a hurricane preparedness workshop where guest speakers explained the need for evacuation go bags and proper generator placement to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning—fire officials and disaster experts stressed safe setup and emergency planning. 7 KPLC
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Calcasieu Correctional Center booked ten people on Aug. 16 for crimes including domestic abuse battery, assault with a firearm, drug and weapon offenses, hit-and-run, and theft—arrests involved residents from Sulphur, Lake Charles and nearby communities. 7 KPLC
- ➤ Two Lake Charles residents — Darius K. Nelson, 33, and Natalie R. Andres, 39 — were arrested on Aug. 14 at a Sulphur motel for drug distribution when Nelson fled from officers, leading to a chase during which he reportedly threw bags of drugs into the water while detectives recovered nearly 10 pounds of narcotics valued at about $510,000. 7 KPLC
- ➤ Louisiana State Police said 37-year-old Matthew Vincent of Vinton hijacked a construction crane parked in a work zone near LA-108 early Saturday morning by manipulating its boom over westbound lanes on I-10, which caused multiple vehicles to strike the crane cables, resulting in four crashes with two injuries and his arrest on several charges including burglary and hit-and-run driving. 7 KPLC
- ➤ A booking report from Calcasieu Correctional Center for Aug. 17 showed five individuals were arrested—Kevin Laurence Handy, 41 from Lake Charles for battery against a dating partner; Jesse James Ramirez, 37 from Brownsville for a fourth DWI offense and driving violations; Logan Andrew Stark, 26 from Sulphur for multiple drug and traffic offenses; Jordan Ardoin, 20 from Sulphur for charges including speeding and illegal weapon carrying; and Amber Desiree Bias, 28 from Lake Charles for an instate detainer. 7 KPLC
