  • Today in Lake Charles, residents can attend the McNeese Football Fan Fest at Navarre Stadium with scrimmages and player meet-and-greets, watch the American Kombat Alliance 49 fight card at Golden Nugget Casino from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., visit Farmers' Markets open from 8:00 a.m. to noon, and enjoy live music by Damon Troy and Louisiana Beat at Jellystone RV Park from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Lake Charles market is held behind historic City Hall (downtown) and the Moss Bluff market is at 325 Sam Houston Jones Parkway (local spot), offering fresh produce and unique finds for families.  Gator 99.5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting Monday, Sept. 8, the National EMS Academy at Acadin Ambulance will offer a 12-week Fall EMT Training in Lake Charles for $400—a 70% discount—with in-person classes twice a week and online sessions that prepare students for the National Registry exam and immediate employment. Orientation is scheduled for Aug. 26 and Aug. 27.  The American Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After three months of debate, the Calcasieu Parish School Board awarded Johnson Controls HVAC service contracts for both the east and west zones of schools, with each contract costing around $2.5 million—with the west side contract totaling just over $3 million due to added system controls. The board approved the move with an 11—4 vote after thorough proposal reviews.  The American Press
  • The I-10-Calcasieu River Bridge Project put out a video called 'A Bridge to Progress' that shows plans to replace the old 1952 bridge with a new six-lane structure with improved safety features—state and federal funds will help finish the $2.3 billion project by 2031.  The American Press
  • Louisiana residents with a seizure disorder can now choose to add an optional indicator on their driver’s licenses and IDs to help first responders in emergencies—applicants must submit a Medical Examiner’s Certification and, if not seizure free for six months, a neurological report.  7 KPLC
