- ➤ Teams will bowl this Saturday, August 16th at Petro Bowl (630 Petro Point Drive) from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to support Big Brothers Big Sisters local mentoring programs. A $450 donation guarantees a lane along with food, drinks, a live DJ and a Glow Getter fundraising competition awarding top teams. The American Press
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police reported that on August 14th a vehicle chase ended in a crash on Common Street and a suspect was taken into custody — investigators are reviewing the incident. 7 KPLC
- ➤ A joint operation by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lake Charles Police and Louisiana State Police netted 13 arrests over six weeks as officials worked to stop gun violence following six shootings—four fatal, with officers seizing seven illegal guns, over 400 grams of marijuana, Xanax and fentanyl. - ➤ Yesterday, law enforcement officials in Lake Charles carried out an operation that resulted in 13 felony arrests and 7 charges for illegal firearms possession—officials including Sheriff Guillory, Police Chief Caldwell, District Attorney Dwight, State Trooper Leger and Mayor Simien said the weapons were removed from local streets. - ➤ Students have until August 20 to register for fall classes at McNeese, which will start on August 25. - ➤ UnitedHealth Group completed its $3.3 billion purchase of Baton Rouge-based Amedisys on Thursday morning after settling a legal challenge that required divesting 164 facilities — one being Amedisys Hospice in Lake Charles. The Advocate

- ➤ On August 14, 2025, a panel of Fifth Circuit judges ruled that the 2022 legislative maps break the Voting Rights Act by limiting Black voters’ power—prompting Attorney General Liz Murrill to review options to keep Louisiana elections stable. 7 KPLC
- ➤ New videos released on August 14th show work on the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge replacement project — officials expect the work will boost traffic safety — as construction continues. 7 KPLC

- ➤ In spring 2024, McNeese wide receiver Makhi Paris crashed while driving from New Orleans to Lake Charles after falling asleep at the wheel—he was found with serious injuries in a ditch. After gaining unexpected knee flexibility from the accident, he will return to play for the Cowboys in their upcoming home opener against Louisiana Christian. 7 KPLC
