- ➤ On August 11, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested over two dozen individuals for charges including domestic abuse battery—strangulation, aggravated assault—and other offenses. The American Press
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana rice farmers are using the Rice Stewardship Program to adopt cost-saving techniques that lower water expenses and protect wetlands + sustain their traditional farming methods. Launched in 2013 by USA Rice and Ducks Unlimited with seed funding from Chevron, the program guides growers on smarter practices that support wildlife habitats + improve crop health. 7 KPLC

- ➤ Ward 6 Fire Chief Todd Parker received the NASFM Leadership in Incident Response Award on August 11—recognizing his work during a carbon dioxide release in Sulphur on April 3 and his efforts to improve emergency training with Calcasieu Parish first responders. 7 KPLC
- ➤ The westbound lane on Kirby Street remains closed for sidewalk repairs and will reopen after 6 p.m. Monday, Sept 8— drivers must use the eastbound lane for two-way traffic. The Interstate 210 ramp will be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug 14 until 5 a.m. Friday, Aug 15 and the U.S. 90/La. 14 intersection will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday, Aug 15 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug 16 for repair work.
