- ➤ Calcasieu Correctional Center's booking report for August 10 shows several arrests for charges ranging from drug offenses and theft to domestic abuse and first-degree rape & other violations by suspects from Lake Charles, Westlake, Sulphur, and nearby communities. 7 KPLC

- ➤ Supervisors for area schools have submitted lunch and breakfast menus for August 11-15 (menus are subject to change) across districts including Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis, and Vernon. - ➤ Waste Management’s Woodside landfill opened in November 1987 in Walker using advanced construction and monitoring with nine groundwater wells to check for leachate, while the Jeff Davis site in Welsh was built on better natural geology with plans for a three-foot compacted clay liner or a synthetic alternative. Engineer John Brunson said both sites operated similarly and that closed landfills may later be repurposed for parks or golf courses — a long-term plan to manage waste safely. The American Press
- ➤ Forecasters say a low-pressure system near Africa may form into tropical storm Erin today as it moves west-northwest between Cabo Verde and Africa’s coast.
