- ➤ Rhonda Kitchens took part in this year’s Mad Hot Ballroom in honor of her son Andrew to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention. She and her coach (Matt Deville) performed a choreographed dance to Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand over the weekend and finished second in the people’s choice award while raising a significant amount for Whitstle Stop. 7 KPLC
- ➤ United Cajun Navy returned to Louisiana after spending a month in Texas rescuing families during severe floods, with Commander Josh Gill saying the work was among the hardest he has led. The team will continue to support rebuild efforts+ assist survivors as part of their ongoing mission. 7 KPLC

- ➤ Lake Charles man Johnathan Koenck was struck by lightning on his truck while driving home on a rainy day over a 135-foot bridge near the Golden Nugget exit- his vehicle lost key functions except for the headlights and nearby drivers helped him safely exit the bridge. 7 KPLC
- ➤ A vehicle accident closed the left lane on I-10W near Vinton, causing heavy congestion over nearly 4 miles+authorities advise motorists to use alternate routes as they work to clear the scene. 7 KPLC
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police are investigating four major fatal shootings in Lake Charles over the last month — a young man was shot and killed outside a bar and three other incidents resulted in fatalities and one hospitalization with only one arrest made, and officials will hold a joint press conference today at 11:30 a.m. to address public safety concerns. 7 KPLC
- ➤ On Monday, August 4, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported multiple arrests for charges including operating while intoxicated, domestic abuse battery, aggravated assault, and illegal possession, with bonds set between $7,500 and $150,000 for suspects from Sulphur, Moss Bluff, Vinton, and Houston — many facing serious allegations. - ➤ Residents from Grand Lake, Cameron Parish and Southwest Louisiana met last week at Grand Lake High School to discuss carbon capture — two guest speakers voiced concerns about its risks to land, water and property value.
