  • Yesterday, McNeese players and coaches held Victory Day at 5 p.m. at Navarre Stadium—an annual camp where special needs children played football and joined game-like activities—continuing a tradition started by former coach Gary Goff and maintained by head coach Matt Viator.  The American Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Venture Global has given final approval to its CP2 LNG export terminal in Cameron Parish and secured $15.1 billion in financing for its first phase. The project, located on a 1,150-acre site near the Calcasieu Pass LNG facility, will create 3,000 jobs and begin delivering American LNG in 2027—marking its third major project in the area.  7 KPLC

CRIME NEWS

  • A two vehicle crash on La. 12 at the U.S. 171 exit in Ragley on July 28 claimed the life of 68 year old Jacqueline Mills when she failed to yield at a stop sign as she entered the road & seriously injured another passenger while the truck driver had minor injuries.  7 KPLC
  • Four suspects were arrested Sunday in Jennings for allegedly desecrating more than a dozen graves at Greenwood Cemetery—including military service members’ graves—and stealing wiring from a high school stadium construction site, with police recovering stolen plaques and power tools while the suspects remain held without bond.  The American Press
  • Two local men are facing charges for sex crimes against juveniles — Lake Charles man Isaiah J. Serrette was charged with 1st degree rape on July 27 after allegedly restraining and sexually assaulting a girl under 9, and Jennings man Louis J. Johnson, 38, was arrested on Friday for indecent behavior with juveniles and pornography involving juveniles after reportedly asking minors to perform sexual acts for monetary gain.  The American Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Louisiana earned national recognition after a Mixbook survey of over 3,000 food lovers ranked its crawfish boil, shrimp and okra gumbo, and blackened redfish with dirty rice among the top summer dishes—each dish reflecting the state’s deep culinary traditions and communal spirit.  7 KPLC

  • Calcasieu Parish School Board plans to open the Ralph Wilson Center of Opportunities to offer academic and career support for local students and families—official details on the opening are expected soon.  7 KPLC
  • SOWELA Technical Community College will begin a seven‑week CDL Class A training course on Monday, August 4 to meet a growing need for truck drivers—this program offers classroom instruction, behind‑the‑wheel training with advanced VR simulation, and options for scholarships and free permit classes.  7 KPLC

Stephanie Berault said Louisiana is set to enforce tighter Medicaid rules that will require work and income verification by the end of 2026—state officials are upgrading technology and merging services to ensure smoother benefits access despite recent enrollment drops.
