CRIME NEWS

  • Timmesha N. Porter, 26, from Lake Charles was arrested on July 22 and charged with accessory after the fact for allegedly concealing evidence in connection with the murder of Kalin J. Stevens, 23, who was found unresponsive on a roadway on June 29 in the 6700 block of U.S. 90—her bond was set at $150,000.  7 KPLC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Marshland Festival returns this weekend at the Lake Charles Event Center, featuring Louisiana food, music and crafts for family fun — doors open at 4 p.m. today. General admission is $15 today and $20 on Saturday, and acts like Rusty Metoyer will perform at 9 p.m. today.  The American Press
  • Twenty-year-old Jake Abraham has introduced his 19-minute short film 'Daddy War Bucks,' a story about two mortgage bankers who try to repossess an elderly man’s home in Sulphur in 1951. The film was made in Texas last year and will be shown at film festivals later this year — a project that honors Louisiana culture and his own local roots.  The American Press
