On July 17, 2025, Calcasieu Correctional Center booked several individuals—including Lake Charles residents—for charges that range from drug offenses and weapons violations to robbery and burglary.

Lake Charles' premier festival, Chuck Fest, is scheduled for October 18 in Downtown Lake Charles.

Students at Calcasieu Parish School Board’s Technology Center are learning to build circuits, code, and print 3D models at a summer tech camp plus using soldering irons to create projects like blacklights that teach them safe digital practices.

Each camper takes home a laptop to extend their learning as the camp offers hands-on training that builds essential skills in a region still recovering after recent storms.

Students in SWLA will return to school this August with start dates ranging from Aug.

7 to Aug. 25—Calcasieu Public schools open on Aug. 8 while the Diocese of Lake Charles begins on Aug. 12—and McNeese State University starts on Aug. 25.

Firefighters with Westlake Fire Department trained with Cajun Dustoff from Fort Polk on Thursday morning at the Calcasieu River to practice hoist and water rescues in simulated emergencies—an exercise led by new firefighter John Dalgleish to improve local response for future disasters.
