ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, showers and heavy downpours will develop as tropical rainbands from Invest 93-L approach the area— a Flood Watch covers most of southwest Louisiana until Saturday with 2 to 4 inches of rain expected and localized flooding possible.  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials from the water industry are meeting at the Lake Charles Event Center to train and review new water system technology and recognize workers' achievements. The 39th annual conference began on July 15 and concludes today—featuring over 180 booths, more than 300 exhibitors, and hands-on lessons on sewer and water system maintenance.  7 KPLC
  • The DOE authorized an emergency exchange from the SPR with ExxonMobil to release up to one million barrels of crude oil to support the Baton Rouge refinery’s operations after offshore supply issues delayed Mars crude deliveries+ ExxonMobil will return the borrowed oil and additional barrels at no cost to taxpayers+.  The American Press
  • Louisiana launched a new High Impact Jobs Program this month to give grants to companies making full-time, high-paying jobs in sectors like energy and advanced manufacturing—while excluding gaming, retail, and solar farms—and four companies have applied so far, Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois said.  The American Press
