Good morning, Lake Charles. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 28th of June.

EDUCATION NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sasol International Chemicals signed a virtual power purchase agreement with Akuo to boost renewable energy at its Lake Charles facility — 91 megawatts from the Tennyson solar farm in Texas will supply about half its energy needs. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. joined Gov. Jeff Landry in Baton Rouge on Friday as he signed a bill to reduce artificial food additives and another to make ivermectin available over the counter, while Landry signed a letter asking for federal approval to exclude soft drinks and candy from food stamp purchases — a move that supports the MAHA initiative for healthier living. The changes will affect schools, restaurants, and health care providers in Louisiana in the coming years.  The Advocate

  • The U.S. Supreme Court postponed its planned Friday decision on whether Louisiana should elect two members from Black-majority districts, leaving the current 6th District map in place for another two years — the court will soon issue a supplemental briefing order to outline the issues for reargument next term — Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said the extra time allows the state to refine its case.  The Advocate
