  • Police said David Wayne Richard, 35, drove drunk and did not stop at the Fourth Street train crossing in DeQuincy just after midnight Sunday, causing a train to hit his car and kill his wife Susan Garcia — he is now in jail and faces charges including vehicular homicide.  7 KPLC

CULTURE NEWS

  • South Louisiana author Jordan LaHaye Fontenot published her true crime memoir yesterday at the Elton Library, detailing the 1983 kidnapping and murder of her great-grandfather in Evangeline Parish (she spent nearly eight years interviewing relatives and reviewing records to piece together the story). The book adds new questions to a long-unsolved case as details remain unresolved.  The American Press
  • On June 27 from 6 to 8 p.m., the Imperial Calcasieu Museum will host The Imperial Pour where local sommelier Ryan Kennedy will guide guests through six wine pours paired with art and history displays (including exhibitions such as Through the Lines and El Nuevo Constante).
