  • Last night, the Lake Charles Event Center hosted Summer Skate Night at the Sudduth Coliseum—admission was $5 per skater and anyone 16 and under had to be with an adult while bringing their own skates.  7 KPLC
  • A list of Fourth of July events has been released for Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana, with celebrations set for July 3rd at Moss Bluff Rec, July 4th featuring Gumbeaux Gators baseball and local fireworks, and July 5th hosting outdoor festivities—residents can plan early for these gatherings.  Gator 99.5

CRIME NEWS

  • Calcasieu Correctional Center booked four individuals on June 19—David Lee Jenkins faces robbery, theft under $1,000 and contempt of court; Joann Ellen Milliron is charged with firearm possession; James Allen Sumrall faces domestic abuse and false imprisonment; and Timothy Wayne Jackson II is charged with property damage and burglary.  7 KPLC
  • Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that on Thursday around 10 a.m. Trevino’s vehicle was found on La. 12 near Reneau Road, and he was last seen walking near Willow Ranch RV Park (the 46-year-old Texas man remains missing).  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Wednesday's council meeting, Mayor Nic Hunter and four council members received awards and said farewell after long service—marking the end of their terms, while new council members and Mayor Marshall Simien, Jr. will be sworn in on June 30 with their first meeting set for Wednesday, July 2.  The American Press
  • Three federal appellate judges ruled on Friday, June 20 that a Louisiana law requiring the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms is unconstitutional, a decision hailed by civil liberties groups for upholding the separation of church and state. State Attorney General Liz Murrill said she plans to appeal the ruling and argued it applies only to the five parishes involved in the suit (all school districts must now follow the U.S. Constitution).  The American Press
