  • Today, the Lake Charles Community Services Department is hosting Skate into the Summer Solstice at the Lake Charles Event Center (900 Lakeshore Drive) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. to offer a family-friendly skating party with summer-themed decor, music from KBYS and a $5 admission fee, while minors must be accompanied by an adult.  The American Press
  • The 2025 Juneteenth Parade rolled through Lake Charles on June 19, bringing residents together to mark the significance of the day + local organizers noted it as an important community celebration.  7 KPLC

CRIME NEWS

  • A Lake Charles man already convicted of felonies was found guilty of attacking his former girlfriend and killing her son and a dog on New Year’s Day 2024, and he will be sentenced on Aug. 21 for second‑degree murder, kidnapping, aggravated cruelty to animals, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  7 KPLC
  • A Lake Charles man, 48-year-old Derik K. Rayborn, was found guilty on Thursday of second-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping, aggravated cruelty to animals, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon—he fatally shot his girlfriend’s 26-year-old son and their dog during a brutal attack on his ex-girlfriend, with sentencing set for Aug. 21.  The American Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • American Legion Post 551 in Lake Charles is offering counseling services to veterans to help them cope with PTSD and other mental health challenges during PTSD Awareness Month. The program is led by Gulf War veterans and partners with Cerebrum Rehabilitation Center, and it is based at (632 Enterprise Blvd.) with more information available by calling (337-515-9437).  7 KPLC
  • Christus Oschner Lake Area Hospital has launched Angel Eye, a 24/7 live video system that lets parents watch their NICU babies and check in with nurses when they cannot be at the hospital. The secure system reduces stress for families with preterm infants by providing real-time feed access—only authorized family members can view the stream.  7 KPLC
