➤ SOWELA is offering an associate degree program in Machine Tool Technology that trains students to set up equipment and operate CNC machines for careers as machinists and millwrights. The program will provide NCCER certification and apprenticeship opportunities and is now registering for Fall 2025 (financial aid and scholarships are available). 7 KPLC

➤ The Lake Charles National Weather Service office lost four meteorologists to early retirement, so its phone service is now 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.—weather balloon launch times have shifted from 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. to noon and 6 p.m. The office will rely on mutual aid during severe weather and remains prepared for hurricane season. 7 KPLC
