  • Federal immigration agents worked with state police & sheriff deputies to investigate Delta Downs early Tuesday morning, but details remain limited.  7 KPLC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SOWELA is offering an associate degree program in Machine Tool Technology that trains students to set up equipment and operate CNC machines for careers as machinists and millwrights. The program will provide NCCER certification and apprenticeship opportunities and is now registering for Fall 2025 (financial aid and scholarships are available).  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new Louisiana law on nitrous oxide sales will take effect August 1 and imposes a $25K fine and suspended license for retailers who violate its rules+ state agents will use broader powers to stop illegal recreational sales+ Governor Jeff Landry signed Act No. 106, sponsored by State Senator Brach Myers.  7 KPLC
  • The Lake Charles National Weather Service office lost four meteorologists to early retirement, so its phone service is now 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.—weather balloon launch times have shifted from 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. to noon and 6 p.m. The office will rely on mutual aid during severe weather and remains prepared for hurricane season.  7 KPLC
