  • The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office warned locals about two scams—a Microsoft call scam and a Louisiana DMV text scam—that pressure victims to share financial details using gift cards or other unusual payment methods, advising people to verify any such messages before responding.  7 KPLC
  • A Lake Charles man, Kevin E. Williams, 26, was sentenced on Friday for his role in the fatal 2023 robbery that led to the shooting death of 25-year-old Damarcus A. Ardoin at his Westwood Road home—he will serve life without parole and 25 consecutive years.  The American Press
  • Sheriff Stitch Guillory warned residents yesterday about scams in which fraudsters call to claim computer problems or text messages demanding DMV ticket payments — he advised people to verify details before using gift or prepaid cards.  The American Press

  • Lake Charles artist Ryann Sterling has a new African American art exhibit on display in the Black Heritage Gallery, featuring 15 paintings, mixed media collages, sculptures and photography that showcase vibrant colors and Southern themes. Sterling, who has exhibited in New Orleans and worked as an educator, said each piece connects with home—reaffirming Louisiana's cultural history.  7 KPLC
  • On June 6, The DaQ Shack in Westlake hosted a zydeco night featuring Rusty Metoyer and the Zydeco Krush with music from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.—gates opened at 6 p.m. and the venue offered a beer bar and mixed drinks for a 21+ crowd.  Gator 99.5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers and business lobbyists have proposed a one-year extension of the inventory tax credit—costing the state $200 million over three years—to give businesses extra time before the tax break is fully eliminated. The bill passed the House and will soon be reviewed by a Senate committee, as legislators weigh its impact on oil, gas and chemical companies.  The Advocate
  • Local businesses on Lakeshore Drive will be forced to move as eminent domain clears the way for a new Calcasieu River bridge on I-10—affected sites include La Parrilla, Steamboat Bill’s, Waffle House, two motels, a gas station, Townsquare Media, and the Love Shack. Construction will begin in spring, leaving owners without a clear timeline for relocation.  7 KPLC
