Second Harvest Food Bank kicked off its summer feeding program on June 2 to offer free breakfast and lunch to eligible children at five local centers.

Meals are served from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday until July 25 or August 1 — service is paused on June 19 and July 4.

Camp ResQ will begin next month in Sulphur and will let high school girls train with female firefighters and police to learn firefighting, EMS, defensive tactics, and investigative skills.

The camp will run from July 14 through July 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., include a visit to a jail and 911 center, and have registration close on July 11 at 5 p.m.—only 20 girls can join.

The Lake Charles Police Department conducted active shooter training at Pearl Watson Elementary School yesterday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. with many law enforcement vehicles on campus — further exercises are set for June 6, June 9, and June 13.

He advised that they focus on growth and new roles as friends rather than strict caregivers—helping parents work through grief and build new bonds—so they can find joy in this next chapter.

McNeese State will return to its pre-hurricane schedule by starting all home football games at 6 p.m., with the season opening on August 30 against Louisiana Christian.
