- ➤ Police are investigating a body found early on May 24 on Opelousas Street near August Drive—Louisiana State Police were on the scene to assist with the investigation. 7 KPLC
- ➤ Calcasieu Parish deputies responded to a residence on South Perkins Ferry Road in Moss Bluff at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and found one person dead, with one individual in custody as the investigation into the deadly shooting continues. 7 KPLC
- ➤ Calcasieu Correctional Center booked several individuals on May 23, 2025; Lake Charles residents faced charges of drug paraphernalia and Schedule I or II drug possession, vehicle intoxication, and contempt of court — another was charged with obstruction of justice, violating protective orders, and other offenses. 7 KPLC

- ➤ First Baptist Church of Lake Charles suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Laura in 2020 and its congregation moved to a new location while the historic building awaits restoration. David Shamieh purchased the church in November for $8 million and plans to restore the sanctuary to its original design—he has already renovated part of the property into an event center. - ➤ On May 24, Louisiana lawmakers moved to cut taxes that went into effect in January and whose revenue effects are not yet clear. Rep. Julie Emerson proposed lowering the state sales tax from 5% to 4.75% and the income tax from 3% to 2.75%, a move that may reduce state revenue by $643 million in 2028 + critics warn it could worsen budget shortfalls.
