  • SPAR Waterpark in Sulphur will open exclusively for District 3 residents (Celebrate Sulphur campaign) from May 23 to May 31, and the park will welcome all visitors on select days in June.  Gator 99.5
  • A doorbell camera captured a 7-year-old who quickly alerted his nanny + family when his cousin had a seizure in the pool, prompting Houston River Fire to secure his cousin's safety. He was honored with a Certificate of Life Saving and a badge on his school awards day.  7 KPLC
  • St. Huckleberry Animal Fund will give away 1,000 bags of premium cat food on Friday, May 29 at Oak Park Square Shopping Center (3202 Gerstner Memorial Drive) starting at 1:00 p.m. The nonprofit celebrates its fifth anniversary in partnership with Stella and Chewy’s, with food available while supplies last.  Gator 99.5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local startups like Natrx, RCoast and Glass Half Full are developing climate tech to protect Louisiana's sinking coastline. They will build breakwaters, use drones to gather coastal data and recycle glass to rebuild land, showing local innovation to fight erosion.  The Advocate

  • Officials announced a gator lottery coming this fall to help manage a growing alligator population (a result of successful conservation efforts) as details on participation will be shared soon.  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new recreational alligator hunting lottery — part of a law aimed at managing Louisiana’s growing gator population — will start Oct. 1. The program will select 5,000 hunters to receive two tags each and include safety education for first-time participants.  7 KPLC

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Legal Corner advises that cash buyers are not required to get a title search when buying property but should have a lawyer review the title (to help avoid issues with liens, heirs, or improper deeds).  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The McNeese Cowboys will face Lamar in a conference championship series for an NCAA Tournament spot. Game 1 starts today at 6:00 p.m. at Lamar’s home in Beaumont.  Gator 99.5
