- ➤ Early Friday morning, police responded to a hit-and-run at the corner of Nelson Road (Elmer Lane) where one woman died and another was seriously injured, and suspect Christopher Landez-Navarrete was arrested on two felony hit-and-run charges. The American Press
- ➤ Jordan Lee Jones, 19, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for manslaughter in connection with the drive-by shooting that killed 65-year-old Annette Touvell at her home on March 2, 2024—trials for two additional suspects are set to begin on June 9. 7 KPLC

- ➤ McNeese is launching a two-week engineering academy for high school students to learn about robotics, civil, electrical, and chemical engineering using real university equipment. - ➤ DeQuincy High School student Alli Richard is set to graduate this May, earning a high school diploma along with an associate degree from Sowela Technical Community College through virtual and in-person courses—she will attend Sowela’s commencement at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, at the Lake Charles Event Center before pursuing a law degree through LSU’s 3+3 program.
