COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lake Charles will host the inaugural Riverside Festival at Riverside Park on Saturday, June 6 from noon to 5, with live local music, food trucks, and artisan vendors along the Calcasieu River. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating (outside coolers are not allowed) at this free, family event.  Gator 99.5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new Tulane University study finds Louisiana’s coast is highly exposed with land loss rising quickly in Southwest Louisiana. Officials at the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are fighting erosion at Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge by repairing levees and building terraces to protect the shoreline.  7 KPLC
  • Local conservation groups are mobilizing to fight coastal erosion along southwest Louisiana’s vanishing coast, planning restoration measures in the coming months to protect vital wetlands (and secure local livelihoods).  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lake Charles Police Department held its annual inspection on Monday, May 11 to commemorate National Police Week and announced its 2026 departmental awards. The ceremony recognized achievements in Merit, Valor, Humanitarian, Lifesaving and other categories.  7 KPLC

HEALTH NEWS

  • On June 27, the American Cancer Society will hold a western-themed musical bingo fundraiser at the CFMA Building on East Prien Lake Road. The event starts at 1 p.m. with bingo at 2 p.m., featuring DJ GOLDFINGER, food, games + live music, and free mimosas, with tickets starting at $40.  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Cowgirls lost 8-0 in five innings at Davis Diamond in College Station, Texas on Friday + early base-running errors helped fuel Arizona State's power surge. They face UConn at 4:30 p.m. today in an elimination game.  The American Press
  • McNeese football coach Matt Viator remembered Bobby Keasler for his impact on the team and community, noting his record-setting career and personal connection with players and boosters; Keasler died Tuesday at age 80, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire.  The American Press
