  • Last Tuesday, May 5, Lake Charles radio host Mike Soileau received a refinished piece of wooden bleacher from LaGrange High School's former football stadium at Allstar Buick GMC when Danny Terro tracked him down after hearing his on-air remark & presented the cherished local keepsake.  Gator 99.5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Twanie’s Terrific Treats is moving from downtown at 206 W 11th Street to a new site at 3625 Nelson Road in South Lake Charles, with an opening date to be announced soon. The new space will offer customers more room to enjoy popular treats.  Gator 99.5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Acclaimed singer-songwriter Stoney LaRue will bring his signature Red Dirt sound to Golden Nugget Lake Charles on Friday, May 15. The concert begins at 8:30 p.m. with comp tickets available from 4:00 p.m. and doors opening at 7:00 p.m. for fans 21 and up.  Gator 99.5
  • British travel influencers Josh and Jase will perform live at L’Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 30. Their first visit last year introduced them to local food & culture, and tickets for the one-off show are selling fast.  7 KPLC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from French immersion programs at Prien Lake and Gillis schools competed today in a French spelling bee at Gillis Elementary, demonstrating strong bilingual skills and spelling challenging words (organizer Marie Guizonne said she hopes to hold the event for years).  7 KPLC
  • Three semifinalists for McNeese State University’s presidential search are meeting with faculty, staff, community leaders, alumni and students today on campus and will attend committee interviews tomorrow in the Richard Student Union Ballroom. The candidates include Dr. Dee Dee Anderson, Dr. Wayne Brumfield and State Sen. Mike Reese.  7 KPLC
  • McNeese’s presidential search committee narrowed its field to three semifinalists on May 7, including Sen. Mike Reese, Dee Dee Anderson, and Wayne Brumfield. The committee will interview candidates on Tuesday and Wednesday with a final decision scheduled for May 19.  The American Press

  • The Cowgirls won their 10-2 game over Lamar on Saturday, May 9 at Joe Miller Field and clinched their 10th SLC title + they will learn their NCAA Tournament destination Sunday at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.  The American Press
  • McNeese swept Northwestern State 9-0 Saturday at Joe Miller Ballpark as four home runs, including a grand slam by DJ Pinkerton, powered the win. The team will wait until Sunday for postseason placement and its next round of play.  The American Press
