  • The International Order of Mrs. Ropers-SWLA Chapter is hosting the Mrs. Roper Pub Crawl today from 2 to 6 p.m. as local bars offer drink specials and awards to raise funds for the Arts and Humanities Council of Southwest Louisiana — supporting regional artists and community projects.  Gator 99.5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lake Charles is hosting the SpongeBob Musical this weekend at F.G. Bulber Auditorium — the show ran Friday, May 9th at 7:00 p.m., runs today at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m., and will run Sunday, May 11th at 3:00 p.m.; tickets are $20 or $25 at the door.  Gator 99.5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Graduates from McNeese State University celebrated their 164th commencement on Friday at two ceremonies that awarded degrees in fields including agricultural sciences, liberal arts, science, engineering, mathematics, business, education and nursing. The event honored graduates from 38 parishes, 17 states, one U.S. Territory and 15 countries (including Sam Houston High School students who earned associate's degrees) as they began the next chapter in life.  7 KPLC

  • Work continues on the new Epps Memorial Library that broke ground in August last year and is on pace to be completed later this year—its $2.4 million, 7,043-square-foot project is managed by K&J Development of SWLA and designed by David Brossett.  The American Press
  • The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury voted to deny the alcohol permit for The Shack on Lake St.—They made the decision after numerous complaints about noise, traffic, and gunfire and have petitioned against a permit for Caddyshack Icehouse.  7 KPLC
